For decades, the billing machine sat at the front of nearly every shop - a simple box that printed receipts and kept a running total.  It did one job, and it did it reliably. But retailers everywhere are replacing these machines with something far more capable: intelligent POS systems that do a lot more than add up a bill. What a Billing Machine Actually Did A traditional billing machine was, at its core, a calculator with a receipt printer attached.
